2 days to go! How is it going?
Greetings hackers!
As of midnight tonight, there will be 48 hours to submit your demo videos.
We've heard from a few of you for help getting your Geode clusters going. If anyone else needs help, you can post a question to user@geode.incubator.apache.org.
You may need to subscribe first: user-subscribe@geode.incubator.apache.org - send anything in subject and body. It will then email back a verification email which you reply to, and then you are subscribed.
If you want to validate some ideas, drop by the Apache Geode Hipchat room and ask away.
And as always, you can message me here via…

We've added a "Honorable Recognition" category
Recognizing that we may have people who wish to participate in the Hackathon, but don't meet eligibility requirements to receive prizes, we've opened a new category: Honorable Recognition.
If you are an employee of a governmental organization, a resident outside of the United States, or have an employee or customer relationship with Pivotal Software, you can still enter a submission under this category, and have your entry scored.
The top scoring entry in this category will be named the "Honrable Recognition" category winner.

New features in Apache Geode Build & Reaching Your Host
Greetings Apache Geode Hackers,
I'm happy to report that some new features have been added to the nightly build. For those of you building new apps, most likely the HDFS-based persistence and the Redis-compatible APIs may be of interest.
Basically this means your in-memory data will be persistent in Hadoop should you choose. And, you can adapt a Redis app to work with a Geode cluster in the backend to gain some new capabilities.
Also, in case you want to reach me, your hackathon host, by email for questions or to validate an idea, drop me a line at gchase@pivotal.io,…

This application could have won...
In case you need inspiration about the kind of applications we are looking for, check out this amazing demo created by one of Pivotal Software's technical evangelists: Fred Melo.
Yes, we think his work is amazing. No, he can't submit it since he's ineligible to compete.
The Highy Scaled Stock Predictive System
He built using Apache Geode for in-memory analytical scoring, Spring XD for data pipeline streaming, Hadoop for storing historical stock prices, and a machine learning algorithm written in "R".

Getting started information with Apache Geode
Greetings Hackers!
A few questions have been asked about how to bone up on Apache Geode quickly:
1. Here are instructions of how to build and run Apache Geode in 5 minutes
2. The Apache Geode Wiki is full ot lots of great information
3. For hands-on exercises and some videos, check out these intro training materials. Although branded "GemFire", they are valid for Apache Geode.
4. If you like to use Docker, check out this page for instructions. This pulls from Apache Geode nightly builds, so its only for testing purposes.
